eSIM QR code not working or already used: next steps

Troubleshoot an eSIM QR code without deleting a working profile. Check installation, connectivity, manual details and the right support information.

A phone with a non-scannable QR-style tile, eSIM profile, magnifier and recovery arrow.

If an eSIM QR code will not scan or is reported as already used, first check whether the profile is already installed. Keep that profile while you investigate. Repeated scanning or deleting it is not a universal repair.

Check the phone’s existing profiles

Open the device’s SIM or mobile-data settings and look for the intended eSIM. Labels can differ from the package name, so compare the information supplied in the order instructions.

If it is installed, use the package’s connection steps rather than adding it again. Outside its coverage area, a correctly installed travel profile may not yet connect.

If the profile is not installed

  1. Confirm the exact phone model, eSIM support and carrier-unlock status.
  2. Use a stable internet connection to download the profile.
  3. Open the original installation instructions and check the complete QR image is clear.
  4. Use a supported same-device QR method or another screen when appropriate.
  5. If the package supplies manual activation details, enter those exactly instead of inventing settings.

Understand “already used”

Some profiles have limited installation or transfer rights. The message can require checking whether the profile was downloaded previously or on another device; it does not establish that the package can be reinstalled.

Changing phones, reinstalling a deleted profile and connecting an installed profile are different tasks. Use only a transfer or replacement procedure explicitly supported for the selected package. Do not delete a profile just to test the QR again.

Contact support with the right details

Use the official private support channel with your order reference, device model, exact error, when it happened and whether an eSIM profile is visible. Support can check the package’s actual options.

Treat the QR and activation details as private installation credentials. Do not post them publicly or share them with someone offering to install the package on an unrelated device. Account passwords and one-time login codes are not needed in a public troubleshooting post.

Questions and answers

Should I delete the eSIM and scan again?

Keep the profile unless official support directs otherwise. Reinstallation or replacement depends on the package.

Can I reuse the QR on a new phone?

Only follow a transfer or installation option the plan explicitly supports. A saved QR image does not itself grant another installation.
