Manage the phone number shown on Google Maps through your Google Business Profile. Use a contact number the business controls and that reaches the real business. Adding a number and verifying business ownership are separate steps.

Choose the right business contact

  • Confirm the business is eligible for a Business Profile. A phone number alone does not establish a qualifying location or business.
  • Use a number under the business's direct control and prefer a suitable local number where possible.
  • Make sure calls reach your actual business, rather than an unrelated company or directory.
  • Keep the contact number active, answerable and consistent with accurate business information.

Add or change the number

  1. Sign in to the Google account that owns or manages the Business Profile.
  2. Find your business in Google Search or Maps and open its profile-management controls.
  3. Choose Edit profile and the contact or phone-number section. Labels depend on the interface and language.
  4. Enter the primary number with the correct country details. Add other genuine business numbers only where the profile offers that option.
  5. Save and check the change's status. Google may review edits before publishing them; confirm the customer-facing listing afterwards.

If Google asks you to verify

Google determines which verification methods are available for the business. If phone or SMS is offered, you must be able to receive the call or message. Other profiles may need video or another method.

Buying a number does not make phone verification appear. For a Blacktel number, check its actual inbound call or SMS capability and activation first. Keep any answering setup suitable for the particular verification instructions.

If the number is not showing

Review whether the edit is pending, whether the phone is hidden in profile settings and whether the submitted details follow Google's rules. Keep ownership access to the profile and use Google's support or appeal process when needed.

Update your website and other genuine contact listings when the number changes. Keep business details accurate and consistent and follow the official review process.

Questions and answers

Can I choose phone verification for every business?

No. Google selects the available methods. Use the methods offered in that profile.

Can a private online number be my business contact?

Check Google's requirements, genuine business control, call handling and the number's own conditions. An online number does not bypass profile eligibility or Google's review.
