SMS verification code not received: what to check

Missing an SMS verification code? Check the number, SMS support, online inbox and resend timer, then choose the right next step for your account.

A phone inbox, message envelope, magnifying glass, clock and blank checklist.

If an SMS verification code has not arrived, check the destination and inbox before requesting another. This sequence helps distinguish a number setup issue, a delayed message and a decision made by the service sending the code.

Start with the number and its status

  1. Compare the full number in your account with the number entered at the destination service.
  2. Check the country selector so the country code is not missing or entered twice.
  3. Confirm that the exact number supports incoming SMS and is active.
  4. Complete any outstanding activation or review steps shown for that number.

Open the actual inbox

In Blacktel, open the selected number’s messages in your account or supported client. A missing push notification is different from a missing inbox message; check the inbox itself.

A working internet connection lets you read the online inbox. Restarting your own mobile phone does not change how a sender routes messages to a cloud-managed number. If other messages arrive, tell support whether the issue affects one sender or several.

Use the resend option carefully

Follow the sender’s countdown and request limits. Repeated requests can trigger a temporary restriction, and some services accept only the newest code. Read the current verification screen before entering an older message.

Short-code routing, supported countries and number-type policies can also affect delivery. Ordinary SMS support does not promise that every account service will send a verification message to that number.

Choose the next step

If the service offers a voice call or an already configured recovery method, follow that option’s instructions. A call needs an incoming-call-capable number. Only the destination service can decide which verification methods it offers.

For Blacktel support, provide the affected number through the private support channel, sender or service name, approximate time with time zone and whether other messages arrive. Do not post account passwords or verification codes. For an explicit eligibility or account-limit error, use the sender’s official help process.

Questions and answers

The notification is missing. Has the SMS failed?

Check the inbox first. Notifications and message delivery are separate parts of the experience.

Should I keep pressing resend?

Follow the service’s timer and limits. Repeated attempts can delay progress, and a later code may replace an earlier one.
