Bumble SMS verification and changing your phone number

Understand Bumble phone verification, SMS and call options, changing your number and keeping account access with an additional login method.

Bumble uses phone verification to confirm access to the number linked to an account. Keep that number under your control and prepare an additional login method before you change or release it.

Follow the verification option Bumble shows

  1. Open the official Bumble app or website and choose the phone sign-in or verification flow offered there.
  2. Select the correct country and enter a number you control in the requested format.
  3. For an SMS challenge, read the message in that number's inbox and enter the requested code in Bumble.
  4. For Bumble's missed-call challenge, follow the app's instructions: it currently asks for the last six digits of the number that called you, rather than a spoken code.
  5. Complete any remaining checks shown by Bumble. Phone verification is separate from photo or identity verification.

If you are using a Blacktel number

Check that the number is active and supports the delivery method requested: incoming SMS for a text, or incoming calls for a call. Use the Messages area or call activity for the correct number. The Free Phone shared inbox is not a private place for account codes.

Use the options actually offered in Bumble and respect its retry timer. Bumble decides which number types it accepts. Renting a number does not itself complete Bumble's account checks.

Change your number while you still have access

  1. Set up one of the additional login methods currently offered in Bumble, such as Apple ID or Facebook, before removing the old number.
  2. In the Bumble app, open Settings, then Security and Privacy and the login-method settings. Labels may vary with app language and version.
  3. Choose the phone-number change option, enter the new number and complete the verification presented.
  4. Confirm that the updated login details work before letting the old number expire. Keep any Blacktel number you still rely on active.

When a code has not arrived

Check the country code, number and matching inbox first. Use Bumble's displayed resend or alternative option when it becomes available. Avoid repeatedly submitting requests while its timer is running.

If you lose access to the old number, try an additional login method you previously configured and follow Bumble Support's account-access instructions. Blacktel can help with its own number or message activity; changes to a Bumble account are handled in Bumble.

Questions and answers

Is Bumble phone verification the same as ID verification?

No. Confirming a number and completing photo or identity checks are separate processes. Follow each check shown in the official app.

Should I release my number after signing up?

Keep a linked number active, or update it in Bumble and test the alternative login first. You may need it again for future access.
