How to receive verification codes abroad with a travel eSIM

Keep receiving account verification codes while travelling. Separate your registered phone number from travel eSIM data and prepare backup access.

A travel data connection and the number registered to an account have different jobs. Keep control of that registered number while using a travel eSIM for internet. The right setup depends on whether the number belongs to your home carrier or an online inbox.

Know where the code is sent

An account sends its SMS or call to the registered number, not automatically to whichever SIM supplies mobile data. A data-only travel eSIM does not create a new ordinary SMS inbox or voice number.

Check your exact package: calls and SMS are included only where stated. Changing the internet connection alone does not update a bank, email service or messaging account’s registered contact.

If the number is on your home SIM

  1. Before leaving, check the carrier’s international service, destination coverage and call/SMS prices.
  2. On a compatible dual-SIM phone, keep the home line available for the registered number.
  3. Choose the travel eSIM for mobile data and configure each line’s roaming according to its own instructions.
  4. Review automatic data switching so another line is not selected unexpectedly.
  5. Keep an independent verification or recovery option configured before the trip.

If the number is in Blacktel

Open your Blacktel inbox or supported calling client through the travel eSIM’s internet connection. The virtual number stays in your account; it is not installed into the travel eSIM.

Maintain the number’s renewal, active status and required SMS or call capability. If a verification message is missing, check the sender’s timer and requirements as well as the actual inbox. Notifications alone do not establish delivery.

Prepare before departure

Save recovery codes privately and set up another supported method while you can still sign in normally. Confirm how you will access both the account and its verification channel.

Home-line calls, messages and roaming can have separate charges. If you change phones during the trip, follow the account’s recovery or transfer instructions; do not cancel the registered number simply because you bought travel data.

Questions and answers

Will a travel eSIM move my verification codes to a new number?

No. The destination remains the number registered with each service until you change it through that service.

Can I read a Blacktel inbox over travel data?

A working internet connection can provide access to your online inbox. The number’s active status, features and sender requirements still apply.
